p_006. Design: The India Story Exhibition

area: 2950 sq.ft
location: CSMVS, Mumbai

status: Completed 2016

The idea was to create a classic still contemporary space working in tangent with the
brand’s identity. As opposed to the basement store, the entrance is a curated space of current trends and new collections. It showcases an amalgamation of both prêt-à-porter and bespoke tailoring, fabrics, and accessories, giving any new customer a quick brief on all kinds of work that Gabbana can undertake. Moving away from the conventional idea of
the store-front, the design is an attempt to create a space mimicking a luxurious walk-in closet. Using minimalistic forms and emulating the simple geometries of Bombay art deco architecture, the brass metallic frames are customized as per specific functions like shirt display shelves, mirrors, fabric display, shoe display etc. All of this is set against a muted backdrop of grey, textured with pop moulding panels to juxtapose the contemporary forms with old-world details.
